• When should you seek counseling?

From childhood through late adulthood, there are certain times when we may need help addressing problems or issues that cause us emotional distress or make us feel overwhelmed. When you are experiencing these types of difficulties, you may benefit from the assistance of an experienced, trained professional.

Professional counselors offer the caring, expert assistance that we often need during these stressful times. I can help you identify your problems and assist you in finding the best ways to cope with the situation by changing behaviors that contribute to the problem or by finding constructive ways to deal with a situation that is beyond your personal control.

  • What is professional counseling?

Professional counselors work with individuals, families, groups, and organizations. Counseling is a collaborative effort between the counselor (me) and the client (you).

I help clients identify goals and potential solutions to problems that cause emotional turmoil; seek to improve communication and coping skills; strengthen self-esteem; and promote behavior change and optimal mental health. Through counseling, you examine the behaviors, thoughts, and feelings that are causing difficulties in your life. You learn effective ways to deal with your problems by building upon personal strengths.

I will encourage your personal growth and development in ways that foster your interest and welfare. Most importantly, I will be there to listen to your story and advocate for your well-being.

  • How much does counseling cost?

At this time, Indigo Bloom Counseling, LLC is able to accept private pay only. Please inquire about the cost of various services during the free 15-minute consultation. A limited amount of session slots are available for sliding-scale options.

  • How long does counseling take?

Ideally, counseling is terminated when the problem that you pursued counseling for becomes more manageable or is resolved.

However, there is no set duration for therapy. You have the power to continue or terminate your care however you feel comfortable, and you are encouraged to discuss this topic with me at any time.

During the first few counseling sessions, I will discuss the length of treatment that may be needed to achieve your goals.

  • Is everything I say confidential?

Indigo Bloom Counseling, LLC follows the professional, legal, and ethical guidelines of the American Counseling Association and the state of Maryland. This means that information about your counseling sessions or what is discussed in the session is not shared with anyone without expressed written permission.

As a client, you are guaranteed the protection of confidentiality within the boundaries of the client/counselor relationship.

The limitations of confidentiality occur when a counselor feels that there is clear and imminent danger to you or to others, or when Maryland state or federal requirements demand that confidential information be disclosed.

I will review confidentiality with you at the outset of treatment and answer any questions you may have.

  • What can I expect from my first session?

The initial session is called an intake appointment. You will be emailed the initial paperwork ahead of time. You can expect to meet with Elizabeth Egan, MS, LGPC, for one hour. During this time, we will discuss any additional information regarding the main concern for coming in. We will then discuss the next steps, including a customizable care plan, payment, and consent documents.

I may make recommendations for a specialized referral or treatment provider if that seems most appropriate. In that case, I can help assist in finding appropriate services.

  • What if I want to switch Therapists?

Most of the time, people feel connected with their therapist. There are times, however, when it may just not feel like a good fit. Although it might feel hard, I believe it is best to speak directly with your therapist and let them know you would like to change therapists.

We do not get angry or offended when our clients want to change therapists, though we do find it is helpful to talk about the reasons you want to change to figure out how to best suit your needs. I will provide you with 3 referrals that may be a better fit for you.
